VCU Libraries’ access to Embase (via Ovid) ended on September 30. 

The database was licensed through a contract negotiated by VIVA, Virginia’s academic library consortium, and funded by VCU Libraries. Despite extensive efforts by both VIVA and VCU Libraries, acceptable and sustainable contract terms with the publisher could not be negotiated.  As a result, access to Embase (via Ovid) ended September 30.

Embase is a biomedical and pharmacological research database that provides indexing and abstracts for journals, conference proceedings, and other scholarly literature. VCU Libraries is exploring alternatives and is offering a trial of Embase on Elsevier’s platform through October 31, 2026.
